'Final Fantasy XV' DLC episodes canceled, game director resigns

Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Publisher Square Enix has announced that a number of planned expansion packs for Final Fantasy XV have been canceled.

The news was delivered Wednesday during a Square Enix hosted livestream event where Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata also announced his resignation from the company and from developer studio Luminous Productions.

A new trailer for Episode Ardyn was released during the livestream, featuring the origins of the titular character.

"In regards to my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after Final Fantasy XV , Tabata said during the livestream.

"For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal.

Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy XV's multiplayer mode Comrades , would be released as a standalone game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Dec. 12.
